Felt Food as Performance Props

I was recently tasked with the job of creating a fake ice cream cone to use as a prop for our local Fire Prevention Week Program.  A friend suggested I use a felt food pattern.  Curious, I searched the term “felt food” on Pinterest and was instantly fasinated.  I am awed by the fun and level of detail involved in these little sewing projects.  I didn’t have any felt on hand, so I decided to make my first ice cream out of fleece.  Where fleece dosen’t hold it’s shape as well as felt, it still turned our rather well.  I think it looks delicious.


I loved this project so much that I’m already planning to make a bananna, cookies, cake, sandwiches, fruits and veggies to use as props in future shows.  If your interested in making your own felt food, here are 2 links to places with collections of patterns and tutorials:
